GREAT GEAR RECOMMENDATION - Marmot Precip Jacket
The Marmot Precip Jacket in Hedge green. A great value in lightweight protection.
Not since Paris in 1983 have I gotten so much out of a hundred bucks. Everybody ought to have one of these. Or three. Basic black for a casual night out with your buds, one in blue or red for game day and one in Hedge green for keeping in your pack just in case.
The Marmot PreCip Jacket has been around for a good long time because it it fills a niche better than anything else in it's class. I mean everybody needs a good slicker, right? A solid windbreaker you can depend on. This one just happens to be made by a world class mountaineering equipment company and it has evolved over the years to include almost all the features we expect in a much more expensive model. Pit zips, adjustable cuffs, main zipper storm flap with Velcro closures, taped seams, elastic hem cord, lay down hood with separate collar and two good pack pockets in the right places. Simple, efficient, effective and well made.
The only thing Marmot could do to make the PreCip better is add Gore-Tex but that would drive the price up out of the pocket change range and ruin its appeal to the outdoor masses. Besides the PreCip Dry Touch Technology coating does a pretty good job in the waterproof/breathable department. I think it is perfect the way it is.
